If you read my I’ve Moved! post you’ll know that I bought my first home back in March of this year. It was a super exciting yet scary time…and still is to be honest, but I’m getting there bit by bit! Obviously, with any new home comes the need to fill it with some lovely things to make it feel like home. Today I thought I’d share with you a few bits I’ve picked up over the past few months, including some real bargain buys! So here we go…
First up are these wonderful cushions, all different, but all lovely! The beautiful floral watercolour style cushion was a gift from a friend, so I’m not sure where he got it from, but it’s perfect for my living room as I’m using purple as the accent colour – so this is sitting pretty on one of my sofas. The initial cushion was also a gift from a friend, so again I’m not sure where the cushion was from (I would guess Next as she’s their biggest fan, but I can’t be sure!) – this is a really fab cushion and will probably end up living in my office room once I’ve completed the layout in there. The final cushion was one I bought myself and I love it. I kept walking past it and it caught my attention every time, so I just had to have it! It’s from Habitat and cost me around £9 in a sale – it’s currently £12. Again, I think this will also sit in my office, as I’m looking to have a bright fun theme in there so this will cheer it up no end.
Everyone loves a pretty bowl don’t they?! I picked up this bold purple one for around £7 in TKMaxx, it’s a Turkish handmade bowl, which has a slightly uneven edge which I love. The inside is smooth and the underneath has a matte foil-like look to it, it’s beautiful. As mentioned above, I’m using purple as the accent colour in my living room, so this will sit on my coffee table…once I get one! I picked up the blue and green plate from a store called Tiger. I’d heard bloggers and vloggers mentioning this store and wondered where I could find one – so I was so pleased to hear that Milton Keynes’ shopping centre was getting one! Oh my! What an amazing shop! It’s full of beautiful and unusual items that are all affordable – perfect. So that’s where this beautifully ornate plate came from and I think it only cost me around £2. I currently use it as a candle plate on which I place some simple white tealights. The final item in these photos is my charity shop bargain. I bought this quite a while ago now in a charity shop in my home town and it cost me £3 – I later found out that it is the Timeless Dimple Vase from Dunelm, and usually costs £9.99. So I was quite pleased with my find! I love the dimple effect on this vase, it’s such a lovely texture. This sits in my living room to match in with the other silver features I have.
Finally, I wanted to show you this stunning floor lamp that I bought (brand new and still with the cellophane around the shade!) …for just £10! When I saw this floor lamp at that price, I just had to snap it up for my living room. (Completely forgetting that I had to drive it home in my little car – it just about got in!). Lamps like this can easily cost around £40 if not more. I bet you’re wondering where I got it from right? A charity furniture store! I must say, I visited our local ones once before to see if they were any good and I wasn’t very impressed. Quite a few pieces were marked and I didn’t feel they were worth buying. Personally I thought I’d rather save my money and buy something brand new. But, one Saturday I got up and decided to give them another shot and was pleasantly surprised – so do search online for your nearest ones and check them out! I’m really happy with the lamp, it fits perfectly in my living room and gives out a lovely level of light in the evenings.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my little homeware haul and it’s inspired you to check out some different places for affordable décor. I’m sure I’ll be sharing even more buys as I go along on my home owning journey… Do you have any favourite places to buy homewares?! I’d love to know!
Feel free to say hello! You can find me on…
