Yoga and Meditation at Whitespace Studio Milton Keynes

Whitespace Studio yoga studio Stony StratfordNestled in St Paul’s Court in Stony Stratford, Milton Keynes is Whitespace Studio – a beautiful yoga studio, full of natural light and run by the loveliest team.

Last weekend I was invited down to try a session of yoga and meditation, along with the other girls from the Milton Keynes Blogger Network, as run by Sophie from Sophie’s Suitcase.

As soon as you step inside, the atmosphere is calm, there’s the scent of delicate incense in the air and your greeted by the welcoming team.

Deborah Berryman, the founder of Whitespace Studio, had a vision to create a warm, welcoming and non-judgmental space for everyone regardless of age, gender, size and fitness, in which they can carry out mind and body practices – I wholeheartedly believe they have succeeded in doing so.

When you arrive into the reception area, there’s compartments in which you can leave your belongings and shoes. Once you’re ready, you can head on upstairs to begin your session.

As we entered the studio, it was full of natural light. A huge white calming space. It truly felt like I had left the world outside, if only for a little while…

On the day we were treated to a beginners yoga session and followed it up with a mini meditation session. The yoga session was so lovely. Full of stretches, easy to navigate poses and concentration on breathing, which is so key when it comes to yoga.

During the session, the teacher asks you to concentrate on certain areas of your body as you move through the stretches and poses, to ensure you’re getting the most from each movement. Don’t worry if you’re scared of crazy yoga poses, it’s not filled with those – this class was pretty easy to conquer and makes you feel fabulous. I’ve only ever done one session of yoga once before this and I found it absolutely fine.

It was so nice to just concentrate on myself, my body, my breathing… the session really allows you, to come back to *you*. It certainly eases away any stresses and worries. It calms you on levels you wouldn’t believe.

Our instructor, Sarah, was so lovely and informative. She had a calming way about her, which I really feel adds to the experience whilst you’re in there. She showed us how to use the foam blocks, cushion and blanket, should we need a little more support in some areas of the body whilst sitting down.

The meditation session after the yoga was so wonderful too. A few more moments of calm, really allowing you to focus on your body, breathing and relaxation. It really was a world away from my usually crazily busy life, and so very welcome.

It’s hard to put into words just how good the session made me feel. Being someone who lives a pretty hectic life at times and can be naturally anxious, it was amazing how that one hour of calm made such a world of difference to my wellbeing. I’m sure sitting at a desk all day at work isn’t the greatest thing for my body either, so being able to stretch it out and provide it with a little light relief was great.

We were even treated to some very healthy juices from Peel Juice Bar in Milton Keynes, which were lovely. As well as these delicious looking cakes… alas, I didn’t have any cake as I’m trying to be as good as possible lately… but they did look great!

At Whitespace Studio, they provide a whole host of sessions. A variety of yoga sessions from calming to restorative… they also provide sessions for Pilates, meditation, mindfulness, baby yoga, pregnancy yoga, family yoga & kids mindfulness, as well as yoga teacher training.

Whether you’re brand new to yoga or you know what you’re doing, there’s sessions available for everyone.

I think it’s brilliant that Whitespace Studio also provide a variety of memberships and club passes, but also allow you to attend drop-in classes. Obviously you will save a few pennies if you opt for a membership or a club pass, but I think it’s great that you have the option to just drop-in when it suits you too.

You can tell from above that I absolutely loved my session at Whitespace, and I’d definitely recommend giving it a try. It’s the most warming, non-judgmental space and such a welcomed world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Perfect for body and mind.
